A Compliment from a Nikon User

When I first started to use SGP, I had issues connecting my D5100. It would usually connect on the 3rd attempt. Due to some family issues I have been unable to image for awhile. Yesterday I finally had a chance to play with the latest version and my camera connected quickly - all the time. I don’t know when you guys fixed it but thanks!

Tim,

I assume you are using DSUSB. I downloaded the new version a couple of
days ago by did not notice any change. I have not imaged in a few days but
will check again.

Moussa

If you have issues connecting you should remove your SD card from the
camera.

I originally reported on that issue. I have since removed my sdcard. Have
not had any connection issues. I can always connect on the first attempt.
It does take 15 secs however.

Disabling DSUSB leads to much faster connections.

Moussa

Ya, I can’t speed up the dsusb connection unfortunately. It just takes
that long to get a response back from the hardware. The dsusb author would
need to address that. However I don’t believe it’s that big of an issue.
More of a minor inconvenience.

I agree. Definitely low on the list of priorities as I can connect
consistently.

Moussa

I had assumed you did something as I am now connecting fairly quickly all the time - under 10 seconds - which is great. Its definitely not a priority to make it any quicker. If you didn’t fix it, then I think my big improvement - as Moussa mentioned - was taking out my 32GB SD card filled with images.

Still, thanks for such a completely automated image capture program. I’ve now used most of the features I need and everything works well and makes imaging much easier. The automated focus routine doesn’t give me V’s but does seem to work. Tonight, I’m trying the meridian flip for the first time and when that works, I’ll have my imaging really automated. Thanks guys!

Tim,
While we have made improvements to the connectivity, the issue is likely
due to the SD card being in there. In the current release if you attempt to
connect and it times out you’ll actually get a message telling you to
remove the card and attempt again. Unfortunately this is something in the
nikon sdk that attempts to read the contents of the SD card that causes it
to hang occasionally. I think it depends on the size and number of objects
on the card.
