Import xml files from astro planner with WIN 8.1

Hello,
I have installed SGP on 2 computers one is running with WIN 7 (desktop) and the other one (the laptop) is running with WIN 8.1. With the desktop no problem I am able to import in SGP a xml file but with the laptop, I can’t import the xml files; message: no targets imported!!! More if I try several times, SGP crashes!
What I have to do?
Thanks for your help,

Maybe your export settings are incorrect on AstroPlanner in the 8.1 machine? You should take a look to see if the export of the Win 7 file is different than the export for Win 8.1. If so, you may need to adjust the fields that are used in the export.

Thanks for the reply.
However, I use the same export settings on AstroPlanner in the 8.1 machine and in 7 machine. The AstroPlanner export file created in the 7 machine, for SGP running in the same 7 machine, target import works quite well, name, RA and DEC locations are good. But I use this same export file in my 8.1 machine, name is good but RA and DEC are incorrect, for example for IC 342, RA is 3780167:00:00 and for DEC 6809617°00’00’’!!! More if I try to import an AstroPlanner file created in the 8.1 machine with the same settings for running in the 8.1, SGP crashes! Of course, the SGP version are the same in both machines. Is it possible to check the format for target import in SGP?

Can you provide the export XML from each machine?

Thanks,
Jared

Thanks, Jared,
I have send by mail the files to ‘info@mainsequencesoftware.com’.
regards,
Michel

Michel,

I have good news and bad news…

Good News:
I have fixed the localization issue that messed up all your RA and DEC values on successful import

Bad News:
I am not sure how you got your 8.1 machine to export with a completely different schema. The one you are using with Win 8.1 is not the default and we do no support it.

The schema should look like this:

<root xmlns:xml="http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace">
<object>
<name/>
<dec>68,09617</dec>
<ra>3,780167</ra>
<id>IC 342</id>
</object>
</root>

Yours looks like this:

<Objects>
<Obj>
<Object>IC 342</Object>
<NameNotes/>
<Type/>
<Const/>
<Mag/>
<Size/>
<RA>3,780167</RA>
<DEC>68,09617</DEC>
</Obj>
</Objects>

When I export my list with AstroPlanner using Windows 8.1, I get the expected:

<root xmlns:xml="http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace">
<object>
<name/>
<dec>68,09617</dec>
<ra>3,780167</ra>
<id>IC 342</id>
</object>
</root>

I recommend you take a look around AstroPlanner to see if there is a way to restore the schema to its default value. In addition, you will notice that your 8.1 XML does not even contain a namespace value…

Thanks Ken for the answer.

But…I think the problem is coming from SGP: I have used the same Astro Planner xml file made the desktop in my laptop. The targets are imported in the SGP running in my Laptop but the location of the target is incoherent although the location in SGP running in the desktop is correct. Please compare the image 1 (laptop, incoherent location) with image 2 (desktop, correct location)???

Thanks for any answer

We will need to see both xml files.

Thanks a lot, Ken,
