Platesolve2 versus astrometry

So I have both running, astrometry as the blind failover option …
The speed of platesolve2 is slow in regards tho astrometry, I have been reading otherwise.

The solve itself is fast, but estimating the background is awful slow … now I do admit these are 72MB fit files from Nikon camera, but that should be the same for both of them, also Platesolve2 consumes much more memory then astrometry … I’m running this on a mini PC with trail bay processor 2GB memory so every MB counts …

So my question is there some optimisation I can do to the settings, there does not seem to be much … ?

Answering my own question a KAF 8300 file of 16MB is processed in a flash, faster then astrometry …
So my next question would be, can I use binning in plate solve with a DSLR, if so I should select 4x4 …

Thanks,
Yves

Not right now. DSLR binning is in place only to remove bayer artifacts for AF, not for efficiency purposes. Please feel free to make a feature request though…
