AllSkyPlateSolving

Please make the supported / required software bolder and clearer to read. I could have saved myself a 110MB download and the time starting to learn the program. Found a lot of topics on PlateSolving and I seen to have the same issue that was raised back in 2016. I’m working with “AllSkyPlateSolver” and its great. Works fast, works local without an internet connection and I’m not willing to move away from it.

Disappoints to learn the hardway that its still not supported.

Will check back in a few years. For now I’ll stick with the software I am acustomed to and know it works for me.

Neil

All Sky Plate Solver is just a front end for Astrometry.net / ANSVR, both of which we already support and have for many years.

Thank you
Jared

That doesn’t really help. It might be a front end however, I have already downloaded the catalogs for use with it. How do I get ANSVR to use those same catalogs. Is there a link to this information.

I don’t intend to download GB’s of catatolgs / indexes again when its not required.

Neil

You’d probably need to manually install ANSVR in the cygwin instance that All Sky Plate Solver is using. This is certainly the “hard way” to go about it. Maybe @Andy has some suggestions on a better way to use the same cygwin instance.

Thanks,
Jared

Neil, Jared is right – both ANSVR and ASPS are front-ends for the Astrometry.net plate solver and there’s no need to have multiple copies of the index files – they can share.

Assuming you have already download the index files for ASPS, you would go ahead and install ansvr and follow the installation instructions. When you get to the part about downloading the index files, click the Folder button

and browse to your ASPS index files folder location and click OK. ANSVR will then use the ASPS index files and you won’t need to download anything else.
