v4.6 is going to have an improved autofocus routine. That is a great idea. I have an SCT and find it difficult to achieve autofocus success. You may have all these features covered in your planned update, but some suggestions:
- Have an automated focuser “setup”:
- determine focuser backlash & apply suitable overshoot step count.
- determine suitable focuser step size for use in autofocus
- maybe determine reasonable starting point for autofocus.
- would allow multiple image frames to be taken at each step during analysis to reject outliers in HFR caused by disturbances..
- Autofocus routine would:

- detect when star turn into doughnuts on SCT scopes and exclude from analysis.
