Fails to center during platesolving

Description

<hello Ken. Here is a log from last night. Centering failed again during plate solving. Meridian flip failed also, and I don’t know why. It worked the night before. My equipment: Celestron CGX, using CPWI software to control the mount. OS is Wndows 10. I installed the newest SGP version yesterday. Camera is ZWO ASI 183M. Telescope is set to target offset. I have tried synch and scope offset, as well. Thanks for your help.

The reason your flips are failing is because the mount itself is not seeing a need to flip. The kinf of flip you mount uses is called an “implicit flip”. It means that we just ask your mount to slew and it needs to be smart enough to know to slew to target on the other side of pier. In your case, it is not flipping. I suspect this is because you are flipping right at zenith. Try bumping this value to something higher where the mount will for sure know to flip… like 5 minutes. Also, always use “Sync” as the “Sync Behavior” unless you have a specific reason not to.

Thanks Ken. I’ll try both suggestions, but I’ve tried the synch setting and the platesolving still failed, particularly in the RA axis. Do you see anything else in the log to indicate the problem, and solution.
Thanks for your help.

The synch part was just a note that unless you have specific reason, you should not alter it… that said, it has literally noting to do with the success or failure of the flip in your case. The reason it’s failing it 100% that you are trying to flip too early.

I appreciate the help on the meridian flip, but the main problem I’m trying to solve is the plate solving(centering) failure. Anything in the log that could help? Thanks.

Sure. There is a pretty nasty bug I see in there, but I think that it is a display only bug. I have fixed that. The issue you have is that you are not converging on your target. This usually means that your mount is not aware of its true position because sync is not happening or is failing. In your case, I can’t tell because you were using “offset”. If you can reproduce using “Sync”, I’ll take a look.
