For some time now I have found that most of the images retrieved by the Frame & Focus wizard are extremely low contrast, making it very hard to see their contents. Is there a setting that can be used to improve them?

You probably just need to adjust the histogram sliders. Do you have the
Histograms module up on your SGP desktop? Just play around with the
sliders.
