I frequently have the need to take several short exposures at various intervals, such as five 30 second exposure every 10 minutes. I might want this to go on all night. An example of this is doing photometry on an asteroid using track-and-stack to build up the SNR. This is not the same as taking the equivalent with a long exposure because asteroids move. Is there a way this capability can be incorporated into SGP?
Dark 10 min (garbage event to create a pause effect)
For each event, increase the count to like 100 or something…
And be sure to check the “rotate through events option” and set a target end time
I don’t know if this kind of thing would work in all cases, but should at least work for the example you provided. The only downside is that it will occupy a little temporary disk space for the “dark” frames that you will throw away afterward.
Thanks, that would work. I’ll try that for some of the fast-moving, faint objects.
Would it be possible to add an option in the Pre and Post-event Options to “Delay Sequence”? That way, one could delay n seconds prior to or after the event is accomplished. This would be similar to the Pause Sequence, only it would be a delay at that point instead. An event would still be needed for each exposure and the rotate through events would need to be set. The repeat count would still be set at 100 or something. The difference is the camera would not be needlessly operating and setting it up is a bit more elegant (no pseudo-dark needed).
I was thinking the capability might not be too hard to integrate into your current logic but, of course, I know it’s a “bit more complex”. That sort of thing can probably be done in NINA, as it’s programmable, but I’d rather use your software as I’m familiar with it and it works well. It would also take me a while to change horses. I like your steed!
Another thing I suppose I could do is run a delay script. I suspect some of your other users could use the intrinsic capability as it’s easier than writing a script.
