More End of Sequence Options

Hey all,

Now I know there are a few ‘End of Sequence Options’ dotted about to do things like ‘Park the mount’ at the end of sequence and ‘Warm up the camera when sequence completes’, even disconnect PHD2 equipment on sequence complete. But, they are all over the place.

What I’d like to see is a new Tab added to a Equipment Profile / Control Panel called something like ‘End of Sequence Options’ LOLOL This could have a numbered set of dropdown boxes where all end of sequence options could be placed, here, users could decide not only what they want to make up their end of sequence options but also choose the order in which they are executed if that happened to be important for their Rig or sitation.

Each dropdown will have all the different options available so in Dropdown (1) a user could pick ‘Warm up Camera’, SGP will send this instruction to the camera to begin the warm up sequence first. In Dropdown (2) you could pick ‘Park Mount or Stop Tracking’, SGP will send this instruction next. Dropdown (3) could have ‘Disconnect PHD Equipment’ and even close the PHD App at the same time. Other Dropdowns could include things like Send Focuser to ‘X’ position or Zero, send Rotator to ‘X’ position or Zero, Close Osb roof, cut power to any Power Switches you use (although SGP should monitor dangerous actions are complete before cutting power)

Another way would be to have all the available options listed in the tab with a dropdown next to each one with numbers, pick ‘1’ to have that executed first, dont pick a number if you dont want that operation to be executed etc etc.

SGP already has some of these options and the logic to execute but it would be a lot cleaner to have all this in one place with the flexability for the user to pick what they want especially with some more options added to the mix that currently dont exist.

Just an Idea which I personally think will be much cleaner and more flexible for users.

If anyone has any other ‘Things’ they’d like to be in such a feature then i’d be curious to hear them too.

Many Thanks

Paul

I have actually long wanted to do this. This falls under “personal workflow enhancements” I think. Some people like to look at their rig from the perspective of equipment. This mostly makes sense because those things are tangible and separate and humans can easily create those divisions in their minds.

That said, there is indeed an argument for a more abstract “workflow view” for multi-tab, themed activities. End of Sequence Actions is definitely one them.

The good news here is that SGPro 4.5 was built with exactly this in mind. It’s not something people will write headlines about, but as developers, it makes adding things like this pretty easy. Along with all the visible stuff releasing soon with 4.5 we’ve also added the notion of “control sync”. In other words, a dropdown control on the Telescope tab to park the mount at sequence end would be classified as the “master” control. A new dropdown control added to the mythical End of Sequence Actions page does not mean that we have to destroy the layout of the existing Telescope tab, but rather just add a “child” control that does nothing except enforce a sync pattern where changes to one are reflected in the other. In this way I think we can satisfy both “schools of thought” in terms of how people expect to find options.
