I recently updated to SGP 3.03.140 running Win 10. I’ve had 2 instances of PC reboot during the overnight run.
Thought it might be an issue with the Laptop. But now a 2nd PC with similar setup did the same thing.
I’m greeted with the Login screen and all applications are closed. Both PC’s are laptops where the battery should maintain at least a 20min AC power outage and the power settings are set to run forever.
Sounds like Windows updated itself overnight. Have you set your update hours to avoid an overnight restart?
That is sure what it sound like to me as well. Go to settings/updates/change active hours and make the active hours night imaging hours (sorta like shown) instead of the default which is daytime…
Thanks… I’ll give that a try. It usually hits me up at bootup as they might be off for a 2 or so weeks. clouds and moonshine.
+1 - yes Microsoft believes it knows best and we suspect overrides all settings if it believes the update is mandatory…
and that is why I have gone back to Windows 7 Pro until a piece of hardware forces me to change
Agreed. My solution is a bit different but has the same effect. I bought a second router and put a second NIC in my PC in the house which connects to the observatory PC which runs the astronomy software. The observatory PC is therefore not conected to the internet so Microsoft would have to use their evil men in black to break into my observatory in order to do updates w/o my permission.
If you are using Win10 Pro (not Win10 Home), you have some additional control over automatic updates. By using the Group Policy Editor you can tell Win10 Pro to notify you when updates are available but not to automatically download and install. Once notified, you then have to go to Settings / Update & Security and actually click the Check For Updates button before those updates will download / install.
Here is a detailed write up of that procedure:
After making this change to my home PCs and to my observatory PC, I have never had an automatic update or automatic reboot.

If that is the case - do you manually adjust your PC clock? My NUCs are awful at keeping time and need updating with NTP for each session…
I connect it every once in a while for a few seconds to update that but it is a desktop that keeps pretty good time.
