Unfortunately that didn’t go too well - when I set the first filter it just went into an endless loop of the filter name (“V”) and “Moving…” until I disconnected it.

Sure… welcome to “why this isn’t already done”. Actually, despite the failure progress was made. We have positive identification of the CFW8 here and now it’s on to the next issue. Also, can you clarify “an endless loop of the filter name (“V”)”? I’m not sure what that part means. Please give this test build a shot:

This latest version looks promising! The filters moved as expected and the button changed color for my B and R filters (my filters are photometric BVRI) where previously all filters always showed ‘N/A’. The V and I filters still show the button as ‘N/A’ but I’m not clear on how SGP sets those colors (assumes B=blue?). What I meant in my last post was that when trying to set my V filter in the focus module, the message after “Current filter” kept alternating back and forth between “V” and “Moving filter…” and I couldn’t stop it other than shutting down.
In addition, I enabled ‘auto adjust focus per filter’ and manually changed filters, and the focuser moved, though I still have to do more testing when I get some time to see if focus positions are changing as I’d expect based on my focus pt settings for the filter wheel.

This is normal. SGPro does not have images for VI type filters. I should really update that image to just be “blank”… would be less confusing I think.
Based on this response, I am understanding that it seems to be working as expected and no further changes are requires (except maybe the one I mentioned above). I know you are still running tests, but is that read correct for the moment?

Hi Ken. Was able to do some more testing and part of it just might be me not understanding how offsets should work when manually switching filters (outside of any autofocus).
First off however, there’s a condition where the filter change just gets stuck on “Moving” that I don’t think is related to the SBIG fixes:
When I open SGP, my filters are named as shown:
These are what are defined in my saved sequences/profile as well.
I can then cycle through all my filters back and forth without issue. However when I go into the Control Panel to the Filter Setup (in this case to enter filter offsets/focut pts), the filter names for R and B change to Red and Blue respectively.
If I click OK to accept as is (after changing focus points), the filters still appear as
But now when I try to change to R or B from this dropdown, it gets stuck on moving and I have to restart SGP (disconnecting and re-connecting the camera and filter wheel doesn’t work).
The other 3 filters move without issue (as long as I haven’t locked it up yet with R and B). I suspect this is because SGP has actually changed the names to Red and Blue despite what is displayed in the dropdown, and they’re no longer found.
If instead I change them back to R and B in filter setup,
I get the following message, and clicking OK clears all the filters in my existing sequence targets even though I’m renaming the filters back to the original.
Secondly, what does SGP consider “in focus” when starting up, and then doing manual filter changes (i.e. outside of autofocus, since I’m doing daytime testing)? For example, I have defined my focus points for testing as shown:
If at startup my current focuser position is say 1000, I then change to the B filter, and then enable auto adjust focus per filter. When I now change to the V filter, should the focuser not move to 1600? It does not move, but when I change from V to R it moves to 800 (-200), and moving from R to I goes to 600. But then changing to Spect or B does not move the focus position, even though the delta is -200. If I go back to V, again no change, then to R goes to 400, etc.
Is this the expected behaviour?

This is true… seems just a general bug that has been around for more than 10 years from what I can tell. You are the first to spot it. Sadly… no prizes.
Because SGPro doesn’t really know what focus is before focus is run, we require absolute positions for filter focus points. Typically, if SGPro goes to the absolute position specified by a filter, it will be close enough to allow the first AF run to succeed. Note that this behavior is only applicable for a sequence run and not for manual movements.
One would think… BUT because Windows controls are expensive to draw onscreen and this Window already has too many of them, rather than add 12 more check boxes to the form, we consider 0 to mean “focus point not defined”. The focuser movement will only occur if both filters involved in the change have the focus point defined.
Thanks Ken. I changed all filters to non-zero focus points and it’s working now as I’d expect for manual filter changes (focuser moves by the relative offsets). I’ll try an autofocus routine as a final check but don’t anticipate any issues.
