Is there any plans to develope SGP on Linux?
No, sorry. If anything we’d look into support for Mac but, due to SGPro origins and its initial dependence on ASCOM we were locked into Windows. Because of this we have picked up MANY Windows dependencies along the way. Now that ASCOM is drifting toward an OS agnostic state more options are opening up but we’d have a long road here.
Hi all,
Ive found INDI (Linux based) to be superior in every way. It downloads with a complete set of drivers and there are no additional steps. It works completely transparently when “chaining” different PCs together, over a network, enabling one to have control over physically seperate equipment in one app. It has its own set of problems though, but they are different than ASCOM. I hope that someday, SGP would be tethered to INDI in the same way it is to ASCOM, and it may be that I go back to Windows just for SGP. I prefer a Linux version of SGP though. Linux has a version called “Arch”, where one can build an app without having preinstalled limitations or “dependencies” to satisfy.
Clear Skies,
Paul
