Hm. None of those logs use the 4.5 beta. Just to make sure we are both talking about the same thing here, I’m after troubleshooting a reported centering issue with the beta. Is that right?
HI Ken,
Centreing consistently fails when I use it. I use ASTAP as the solver. It failed again tonight on the one occasion I tried to use it. I’ve been imaging galaxies by platesolving nearby then using ‘slew to’ to frame the galaxy, as you’d expect, that method does not centre well, but its the only option I’ve got at present.
When I use centreing, SGP locks up after reporting the centreing failure and the only option I’ve found is to end the sgp task. Alt Tab doesn’t get me to any hidden dialogs.
My observatory is remote, so I’ll get the log tomorrow and post.
BTW this happened when I used the beta too, that’s why I moved back to production.
all the best,
Paul
OK, just so I’m clear: the original suggestion was to use the 4.5 beta because it has corrected this issue. You noted that you did, but had to revert to because the beta will no longer center implying that you moved back to 4.4. So is it now accurate to say that auto center has just started failing in both versions?
None of this is said in frustration… just being guarded with my time because looking through these issues can be time consuming. In other words, you are saying I can look thru those 4.4 logs for the issue you are reporting?
yes that’s right Ken, I had the same problem in Beta and stable. Sorry I haven’t posted logs as I haven’t got to the observatory yet.
Paul
Can you provide additional details describing the failure. What is happening? Possibly more importantly, there is an assumption that centering was working in the recent past… did anything change?
Also, it’s important to note that any sequence opened with SGPro 4.5 may no longer be usable in SGPro 4.4 (there is a sequence migration), so be sure to also use your pre-beta backups when reverting back to 4.4. I am not saying this is the issue here but can’t rule it out either.
ok , so what happens is as follows:
I set up the sequence, connect the equipment and initialise the target position by clicking centre now. The centre now operation starts and goes through its positioning and plate solving process, but the operation fails. A message pops up and disappears, too quickly to read, and from that point onwards the dialog containing ‘centre now’, ‘slew to target’ or do nothing buttons is locked. Clicking ok or cancel has no effect. There is no way out that I can find other than windows task manager > end SGP
I hope this helps.
One thing which may have a significant impact on the failure of the centre now process is that if I do plate solve, it works fine first time, but the image scale is then lost, and any subsequent attempt to PS fails. I have to manually goto control panel and re enter the image scale in order to do another PS. So perhaps this is what is causing centreing to fail.
We are back to ‘normal’ weather here in the UK, so there is no way to predict when my next imaging session will be. I had virtually no clear skies for close on two years …perhaps it won’t be that long…
all the best,
Paul
