Target list with Starry Night

Description

I use StarryNight Pro 8 and can’t figure out how to export a list of targets and then import them into SGP. I checked in the user manual of SNP8 but I did not find anything related to the procedure you gave in the manual of SGP. Someone can tell me how I can do it?

I did not even know this could be done!

I will be watching with interest.

For now though I just write them down and enter them manually into SGP

Hello thanks for your reply,
Yes this option exists in SGP, you go to the file menu and then in import targets there are 5 choices to import the data, StarryNight is one of these options. I finally found how to import the coordinates from StarryNight 8, we must have a livesky account and have a paid subscription. Probably that previous versions of StarryNight did not require a livesky account. I use telescopius instead and it’s free.

Even if you don’t have Starry Night you can also use the StarryNight import to grab data that you put in a text file. SGP only uses three things…target name, RA and Dec. Anything thing else will be ignored by SGP. There is a short sample for four variable stars in Per here: Dropbox - SN import.txt - Simplify your life Try importing it in SGP with File/Import and picking SN.

The easiest way to do this is to create a spreadsheet.
Put the target names in Column A. Put the RA is in column L. Put the Dec in column M.

The RA and Dec should have the minutes and seconds represented in decimal minutes.

Copy columns A-P (16 columns) and paste into a text file. Add the header line you see in the linked text file and do the import. I got the header line from a friend who owns SN.

Good site, that’s where I get my data from for import.
