I had to replace my observatory PC, and I’m having problems getting The Sky X and SGP to play nice again. When I initiate a sequence, the mount slews, but shortly after the slew begins SGP reports the focuser disconnected (I have no idea how the focuser comes into play here) and then a few seconds later the mount disconnects. TSX pops up a communication error (213). SGP then opens an autofocus dialog - I guess it doesn’t open a platesolve dialog because it knows the slew failed.
I’ve installed the ASCOM 2X adapter v 6.2, run TSX as administrator, and tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of both TSX and SGP. Same results.
I’m afraid we can’t be much help here. Unfortunately SGPro has communicated the entirety of its situational awareness to you in this. It literally only knows that these devices were connected and then they weren’t (and SGPro did not modify them). One thing that may possibly be helpful is to recreate the issue with ASCOM trace logging on to see (exactly) what signals are coming into the affected devices (or if there are time outs, etc…)
I was also having issues with Sky X and SGP. SGP would abort saying the mount was not guiding even though it was. I was also told to try the ASCOM trace but decided to try N.I.N.A software to see it the problem was there using N.I.N.A , it was not. I was missing a lot of clear nights trying to solve this issue so I just switched to N.I.N.A software. Problem solved. Probably not what this site wants to see but if it helps you, give it a try, it’s free. I still like the SPG software but for some reason it doesn’t like Sky X.
This seems kind of crazy, but the problem seems to be the camera cooler. A few seconds after the cooler is turned on, the mount will start showing connection errors. If I leave the cooler off, all is well. This happens whether or not I use SGP. I can connect to the camera (SXVR-H694) through The Sky X or through SGP/ASCOM, but either way once the cooler is turned on the mount quickly starts showing communication errors and then disconnects.
So the water caused some kind of fault in the cooler power system, right? I don’t understand why that affects the mount, but obviously it does. Anybody care to guess if getting the camera fixed will solve the problem, or is it likely that the problem is broader than that? As near as I can tell everything works exactly as it used to, as long as the cooler isn’t turned on.
To me, it seems almost as if some condition has changed that causes a device to saturate the entirety of the bandwidth on the USB hub. When data gets dropped because it can’t fit through the hub, all kinds of weird stuff starts to happen.
Results of some further testing: the problem appears to be either in the Bisque external power cables or in the mount’s internal power wiring that those cables attach to. When I connected the camera power brick direct to the camera, the cooler ran without trouble. No USB disconnects, whether I’m using SGP or not.
The backstory here is that a couple weeks ago my gear got caught in a sudden rain shower before I could cover it up. I assume that whatever this electrical issue, it was caused by the rain. Moral of the story: don’t let your gear get rained on!
BTW, I really like the new connection setup in SGP - the way it will automatically start TSX and PHD if I forget. I always like it when there are fewer things for me to do wrong.
