Why is PlateSolve Grayed Out?

If I open an LRGB image in SGP and right click, Plate Solve is grayed out. If I open an L sub in SGP, then I Plate Solve is available. Why? The PlateSolve2 plug-in in MaxIm DL works just fine on the LRGB image.

I’ve tried File - Open Image with a variety of colour image formats, including jpg, bmp and tif. PlateSolve is active for all of them.

No idea what you mean by a LRGB image.

SGP is not Maxim. It’s got different functionality. If SGP doesn’t have the functionality you need then use something else.

I am sorry I was not more clear in my question. By LRGB image I meant a FITS image file that has been created from a Luminance (L) image, a Red ® image, a Green (G) image and a Blue (B) image. It is a single FITS file with FITS header information.

If I am working with astronomical image files taken with CCD cameras, presumably I am working with FITS files, not jpg, bmp, or tif files. Therefore, it would seem reasonable to me that SGP would be able to perform such functions as plate solving with FITS files. I thought the underlying engine, viz. PlateSolve by PlaneWave was what SGP uses. If I use the standalone PlateSolve 2.28, and open the LRGB FITS image file, PlateSolve works without difficulty.

I am sorry if mentioning MaxIm DL confused the matter. It has nothing to do with MaxIm DL. My question is why does SGP not allow me to plate solve an LRGB FITS image file? Have you tried File – Open Image with a color FITS file? If so, what was your result?
