GSO 8 inch RC

Anyone using a Sesto Senso with the 8 inch GSO RC. Can’t get the step size. Having a hard time getting enough stars to calculate the step size

I do. If you’re using the scope without a reducer, it’s a F8 scope and you’ll have to set a longer exposure time, or increase the gain on your camera. Also, if possible don’t autofocus with a narrowband filter. If you need to, then you will have to increase the exposure time again.

I use a camera with a CCD KAF8300 chip and have to expose for 10 to 15 seconds to get enough stars for the autofocus routine to work correctly.

If longer exposures or Gain changes don’t work, then your Telescope settings (focal length etc.) might be wrong.

Hope you get it sorted. Regards, Allen

Just another remark, I’ve had trouble with the coupler between the focus motor and the Crayford focus tube, in that in warm weather the motor would move the tube alright, but when it’s really cold then there would be slippage. Change the screws and everything worked fine.

Allen

Longer exposures and binning will likely help.
