SGP 4.1.0.793 Failed to end sequence on time

I was running this on two rigs that I’ve used SGP on for a long time without this issue. Both rigs had a sequence in SGP set to end at 4:00 AM. I just happened to get up at at 5 AM and on checking both PC’s SGP had a blank dialog on the screen, were unresponsive, and all the equipment was still running. Guiding was failing due to no stars in daylight, but mounts still tracking. Fortunately, no damage. I am going back to version 4.0.0.700 until you can verify that this issue is resolved. I can send logs if needed. It seems all recent revs are full of bugs and clumsy, slow UI.

Partial log from when sequence should have ended, parked scopes, and disconnected all:

Sequence Generator 4.1.0.789 (64-bit)

Sorry, I guess I worded the title wrong. I wanted to know if .793 addressed this problem. Both machines had SGP completely hung with a blank dialog window (no text, no buttons), I had to kill app with Task Manager. I should have taken a screen shot, but was concerned about scopes crashing. I will NOT try to reproduce, or run any newer revs of SGP until I know it is safe. Never had this problem with earlier revs…

I will try to report it using your procedure below, when I get a chance.

Thanks,

Larry Stall

There are no changes for that part of the code base between 789 and 793. Unfortunately we can’t verify if it is fixed because we are wholly unable to reproduce any similar issue. You are not the first to report this and we’ve been looking… I have a reasonable idea what is causing the issue, but still no luck reproducing it. On a hunch, I have completely reworked the “auto closing” message box code in a way that I hope is less problematic. Again, we have no ability to verify anything in this case… whenever you’d like, you can use versions 4.1.0.794 and above to use a version containing these changes. “Wait and see” may be worthwhile, but also maybe not… Even with the current code, it happens so rarely that we only have 3 reports (including yours). Up to you…

4.1.0.794 will be available at some point today.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will “wait and see” if this issue is verified and resolved. The older version is more UI-friendly with my mini-PCs via RDP and WIFI anyway.

Larry, I too have had issues with the new UI on a Beelink MiniPC, utilizing RDP over WiFi. I also have experienced end of sequence issues where ending the session and parking the mount do not occur. I went back to 4.0.0.700 and have had no issues since.

Good to know I’m not alone, I guess. I have Beelink MiniPCs, as well. Staying with 4.0.0.700. I really don’t see any improvements that benefit me anyway.

@Larry_Stall / @jameshawks
If you don’t mind me asking, what are the UI issues you are experiencing with mini-PCs and RDP/Wifi with newer versions?

Thanks,
DaveNL

The UI is generally sluggish, slow responding to mouse motion, clicks. I have to disable pop-up info windows on mouse-overs, otherwise I can’t get to the button/menu item. Updating data (exposures, repeat, gain, offset etc.) is cumbersome and annoying. Click on the item or drag over is delayed, typed values delay showing up for seconds at times (this is especially noticeable while targets are being “loaded in background”). Background loading of targets takes forever. I have none of these issues with 4.0.0.700 and earlier. In earlier revs, there is almost no noticeable delays in UI response when controlling via WIFI RDP.

Exactly the same issues as stated by Larry along with dialog boxes not rendering and end of sequence not running (with a blank dialog box). 4.0.0.700 works with no issues at all.

Thanks. Was curious as I’ve considered migrating to a small on-mount PC (instead of laptop). Hopefully these issues will get resolved.

Dave

This issue is resolved in the current release. The issue was to do with a security issue in Windows that, for some machines, would not allow the progress bar to run in a separate thread.
