As opposed to the standard wall of text describing new things, this is a combined summary FAQ for folks that are not interested in the unabridged story of SGPro’s life. Don’t misunderstand me… this WILL be a wall of text, but it will cover a lot of ground for a lot of different topics.
Here is the full version: SGPro 4.1 Comprehensive Release Notes
What is going on with SGPro 4.1?
4.1 is a BIG release. Code-wise, it may be the biggest release we’ve ever done. It’s been in beta for near 6 months now and is close to release. It focuses mainly on user “quality of life” enhancements, but has some new functional features too. The abbreviated list:
- Themes support, including a VERY dark theme
- Target tooltips
- At a glance target status indicators
- Optional extended target list visibility
- Sequence background loading improvement
- Support for rotator’s mechanical angle
- Better layout for target options (especially for altitude and time parameters)
- A more useful toolbar (with customized visibility options)
- Switches refactor (SGPro no longer attempts to connect to all switches, only required)
- Switch profile portability
- GNS implementation overhaul (will now use your installed version of GNS)
- Improved image history tooltips
- Minor overhaul to the flats calibration wizard (no longer dependent on the sequence’s gear; better math to arrive at the desired ADU level faster)
- Tooltip, warning and error message overhaul
- Significant reduction of file corruption in saved data
- So… many… bugs… fixed.
Still kind of a wall of text, but, like I said, this is a big release…
When will it be released?
We are targeting April 9th 2022. This is not a guarantee that 4.1 is bug free, but based on the data available to use from testing over a period of 6 months, we believe that it is as stable as version 4.0 and fixes MANY defects that are present in 4.0.
Am I eligible for SGPro 4.1?
If you are using SGPro 4.0, the answer is yes in all cases. If not, send us a note and we can walk you through the upgrade process.
Do I need to maintain a subscription to continue using SGPro 4.1?
Absolutely not. The Subscription Maintenance Plan is for users that want the latest and greatest when it comes out. For most, this comes out to 16 US cents per day. The rule to remember is pretty simple: If you can use a version of SGPro, you’ll be able to use that version forever.
What’s after 4.1?
We already have some new features in the pipeline, but one thing is for sure: releases will be smaller and more frequent. The 4.1 release is necessarily large because of the scope of the changes (affects the entirety of the app). Here are some things coming, in no particular order (not mentioning a thing you want is not an indication that we are not considering it):
- New auto focus trigger based in delta HFR readings
- Support for meridian flips under the pole
- Community supported localization
- Auto focus subframe-set management
- User contributed splash images (don’t judge… this is the foundation for something actually useful)
- Target start / stop at dusk / dawn
- Angle-matches flat frames (attach a flat event to a light event)
- Free floating Planning Assistant (not tethered to a target). Be able to overlay several targets on top of each other to get an easier sense of ideal capture times in a single session.
