I left Sequence generator a few years back as i’m not a fan of being forced to pay a subscription and i was frustrated by the software lacking features that i was seeing elsewhere in free software such a nina. Whilst i think Nina is great and has a lot of unique features, i do miss the old school / simpler interface of SGP.
Currently I have SGP 3.x which is great - other than a minor issue that it does not play well with my DeepSkyDad FP1 flat panel.
Quite some time ago, i did try the SGP 4.x demo, but as far as i recall i couldn’t really see any difference that would warrant a £150 upgrade cost and then an ongoing subscription fee.
Please note that this is not me bashing SGP as i love the software, i’m simply trying to understand what i would be getting for my money over V3.x e.g. what does V4.5 do that 3.x cannot, and if those added features are of value to me.
Hi Ken, thanks for sending that through. So if i can take a 12 month subscription and then just cancel the subscription and then continue using the product for a few years subscription free before i’m ready to upgrade again, then that’s fine and have no issue with that, as it’s exactly how my other subscriptions such as PixInsight work.
I’ll renew my subscription later today.
In terms of features - I have been hoping for many years for SGP to introduce 1 feature, which is a built in Polar Alignment tool that uses the main camera like Nina - Is there any plan to introduce such a tool as i think it’s one stand out features that a few of the free apps have that SGP does not. Would really love to see this in SGP, so i dont have to flick to Nina just to do the Polar Alignment.
This is true. Subscriptions in SGPro never control your ability to use the app, only to get the latest updates. Once you purchase SGPro you can use it forever without any additional fees. When it expires, you’ll be able to use the latest version of SGPro on that expiration date and then make us work for a renewal.
To my knowledge other than a few add-ons which integrate with Pixinsight, but are not made by them, there is no yearly update fee. I’ve add it for a decade and never paid anything again except for courses.
